Bottled v1 developed in the Wonder Woman Residency. The installation is design with 1095 recycled water bottles.
In 1995, World Bank Vice President Ismail Serageldin said, “the wars of the next century will be fought over water”
Why do I buy a bottle of water at 10000x the price of the water that runs freely from my tap?
I am interested in small actions that create bigger impacts. I am one of sheep who is choosing to make water a commodity by buying it a pretty package. The water bottled symbolizes the absurd pursue to achieve nature’s “purity” through technology.
Only 2 out of every 10 water bottles are recycled. Americans drink approximately 26 billion liters a year.
The sculpture is a low-resolution landscape motif created out of 1095 recycled water bottles. The highlight section approximates the amount of bottles that would be recycled. The rest of the bottles each represent 3x as much water trapped in packaging then the liquid it held.
